Sunday School
Hi! My name is Libby Winton and I’m responsible for co-ordinating the Sunday School activities at The Salvation Army. Of course, the running of any activity relies upon many other people and so a team of volunteers ensure that the Sunday School is well looked after. Each volunteer has a current CRB check and has attended Safe and Sound (child protection) training.
Our Primary class is for children aged between 3 and 6 (or year 1 at school). This is led by Lisa King, along with Sue Harrold and Louise King. The children enjoy many different activities each week including a Bible story, singing, craft and juice and biscuits!
At the age of 7 (or year 2 at school) the children move on to Juniors. This is where you will find me, along with the other teachers: Elizabeth Lee, Rosemary Ellitson and Simon Little. Sheila Baker keeps our register and makes sure that all the children’s records are up to date. We do many different activities – in fact anything that will help us learn more about Jesus! We also do all the usual things like singing, quizzes and craft activities. This Easter we’re making our own puppets and doing a puppet show for some of the other church members!
We firmly believe that children should have fun when they come into our church.
Consequently, we also run during the year a holiday club (usually during the October half term) and activity afternoons (table tennis, air hockey, table football, craft, etc) during the summer holidays. Ambassadors in Sport run a football activity week during the summer holidays as well.
We have a children’s choir and brass band, both of which have a weekly practice. Most Sunday mornings, our young people’s choir sing in our worship service.
For the past couple of years some of our children have been able to take part in a music day, which gives them an opportunity to sing, dance, act and play a brass instrument!
So, if you would like to come along and see for yourself, please do so! You would be most welcome each Sunday from 10.30am to 11.45am – we’d love to see you!
Libby
