Social Events

Our social events committee meets approximately twice a year to arrange social events for our church. Events include quiz and film nights, BBQ and Bowls evenings, car treasure hunts, fundraising breakfasts, to name just a few.

One of the highlights of last year's programme was our Harvest barn dance and supper. This was held at Orwell High School and approximately 90 people attended.  Because of its popularity, we will be holding another barn dance this year.

The purpose of our social events are twofold: they afford an opportunity to those who attend our church to have fun, relax, and get to know each other better. They also give opportunity for us to invite non Christians into our church, in a way that is enjoyable and provides a 'no pressure' introduction to our church family.

At most of the events we have organised, we have seen church people bringing their friends & family along who don’t normally attend church. This has been great to see and, at our most recent Quiz Night in March, a man who had attended for the first time said that it was so nice to come to a church event and feel at ease and welcome.

With most of our social events, there has been a small charge to cover costs. Any surplus money raised last year went to support our MAD ('Making a Difference') fund in aid of local community projects.

A “Now you know” events brochure is also produced every four months, detailing forthcoming social events, as well as special services, concerts and fund raising events."
