24-3 - An Opportunity for Prayer

24-3 PRAYER
Open to the public 9am -7pm
Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th and Saturday 25th

God calls us to pray... "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus"
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
How often do you have time to pray? Maybe not very often? The answer will be different for everyone of course, but in a world which seems to move at a pace quicker than we can keep up with, it can be difficult to find time to stop and take a breather with God. That’s why over the 3 days we are inviting you to come and pray, whether it be for 5 minutes, half an hour or even 4 hours. Our Main Hall will be open as a prayer room so that we can take some time out with God, praying specifically for our community and the work within it.

A prayer room is simply a space which seeks to prioritize Christ's two greatest commandments: ‘to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:30).’ In this prayer room there will be 9 prayer stations, each focusing on a specific aspect of our community, as well as a space for you to just sit and be still in God’s presence. You don’t have to use the prayer stations, you can just come and rest in God’s house.  Feel free to do whatever you want to do to draw closer to God.

So, if you’ve never been in a prayer room before, why not make this your first time. Let’s come before God. Let’s get excited and share in a passion for praying for ourselves, our neighbours, our town, our world, but above all pray that God’s will be done here on earth.

All are welcome to come!

Prayer Stations
Here is a description of the prayer stations for you to use if you wish to do so.
1. Prayer for various areas of corps mission/service – write or say prayers around the photos of our corps life.

2. Prayer for local organisations – there will be a few prayer points for different organisations in our town. Write prayers/words/pictures and post in a prayer box (which will be opened and ongoing prayer offered for these organisations).

3. Prayer for churches in Felixstowe – using a sand table with lolly sticks. Each stick will have the name of a church on it and whichever named stick you pull out of the sand, we invite you to say a prayer for that particular church.

4. Prayer for sharing The Light with others in our community – light a tea light as a symbol and act of prayer.

5. Prayer for yourself and coming before God in stillness – a quiet room. Music,  a water feature, Books, a space to just be still.

6. Celebrating God’s answers to prayer in our community – Take a celebration chocolate as a symbol and thank God for answered prayer.

7. Prayer for Belarus – a display board with information and pictures on Belarus and our church partnership with Christians in this country.

8. An object table – various objects for people to use as a prompt for pray.

9. Art table – for adults and children to use in creative prayer.

‘Prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Spirit can teach us.
Pray for prayer. Pray until you can really pray.’
